My SEO Journey

I started building websites back in the mid-1990’s when working as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer for a London based air-freight company. As the internet started to flourish, search engines like Alta Vista and Yahoo! emerged, primarily to index and organise websites and make them more accessible to users.

As the world wide web continued to expand website owners and developers began to realise the need to enhance content visibility, giving rise to the inception of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

My Career as an SEO Consultant

It was around this time that I found my calling as an Intranet Administrator at the prestigious pharmaceutical giant GSK, where I worked on numerous brands and external websites.

This pivotal role granted me the opportunity to work on a myriad of brands and external websites, enriching my web design and development skills.

As search engine algorithms continually evolved, a dominant player emerged in the form of Google, founded in 1998. Its groundbreaking PageRank algorithm revolutionised search accuracy and delivered unparalleled relevance in search results, cementing Google’s position as a frontrunner in the search engine market.

During the 2000s, I embarked on an exciting freelance journey, collaborating with diverse marketing agencies to spearhead numerous site builds. My unwavering focus on SEO principles ensured that each project harnessed the full potential of search engine visibility and user engagement.

SEO’s couldn’t ignore the fact that Google was gaining marketshare and were left with no option but to pay close attention to satisfying the their ranking algorithm and to the many core updates that were rolled out in the early 2010’s. These included Panda (2011), Penguin (2012), Hummingbird (2013) and Pigeon (2014) and were designed to put a stop to black-hat SEO tactics. Google continues to roll out core updates to this date.
